Ownership of property lying along Louisianas many rivers, lakes, and coastal waters has always been important with respect to delineation of the States ownership of water bottoms on the one hand versus private ownership of the adjoining riparian lands on the other. However, in recent years the presence of valuable mineral resources beneath these water bottoms and the adjoining lands has focused additional attention on the need for expert assistance in resolving riparian boundary disputes. For this same reason, riparian boundaries between parishes have received new interest as well. Through the application of engineering knowledge to the matters of law at issue, the forensic engineer can be of special value in the legal process.Published
