Forensic Engineering in Alaska

Abstract

Forensic Engineering In Alaska Involves The Same Type Cases As It Does Outside - Personal Injury, Auto And Industrial Accidents, Fires, Soil And Foundation Failures, Faulty Construction, Construction Claims, Errors And Omissions, Etc. We Do Have Elements Which Add To The Complexity Of These Typical Cases. They Are: Engineering In The Arctic, And Dealing With Permafrost. These Are So Critical And Unique To Alaska, That One Of The Requirements For Registration In The State As An Engineer Or Architect Is An Understanding, Satisfactory To The Registration Board, Of These Elements. This Requirement Must Be Met By Writing A Comprehensive Treatise On Construction Under Arctic And Subarctic Conditions, Or Successful Completion Of A One Semester, Graduate-Level, Course In Arctic Engineering At The University Of Alaska, Or Of A Seminar On Arctic Engineering Approved By The Board. No Seminars Have Been Approved, To My Knowledge. I Thought That It Would Be Of Interest If I Related One Of My Cases Which Involved The Arctic Environment. It Is Not An In-Depth Study Of Arctic Conditions But A Part Of The Problem As It Arose.
