The purpose of this paper is to describe the techniques utilized in defining the causal factors of bicycle accidents. The author has reconstructed at least 200 bicycle accidents in the last 15 years, and our firm, Resource Engineering, has spent a good deal of manpower formulating the engineering dynamics involved in these accidents. In order to objectively reconstruct a bicycle accident, one must have a strong background in riding technique, bicycle mechanic skills, as well as the engineering background to describe the dynamics of the actual accident...A generalized view of the approach to investigating certain accident types will be given with examples from specific cases.Published
